Patmos, Dad’s Windmill

In these two views as we’re approaching the village of Hora, you can see the three intact windmills on the left, and then Dad’s half-windmill on the right.

As I shared in an earlier post, my dad owns a broken in half windmill in the village of Hora on the island of Patmos. His mother’s sister, Evdokia Gouras Gennis, who helped raise him, gave him the windmill years ago.

How long ago? Not sure. But I remember in 1985, when I visited, knowing that. He’s wanted to sell it for decades, but there have been tons of issues and reasons he hasn’t sold it before now.

He told me in 2020, that one of the things he wants to do before he dies is sell it, so we are praying the Lord will work that out, not just for him, but for my brother, sister, and me.

I took a bunch of pictures of it to capture not just what it looks like, but also the amazing view from the property.

While in Patmos, someone sent my cousin, Cookie, this picture of the windmill and what it looked like years ago when it was still in tact.

In this view, I’m standing between Dad’s and the windmill closest to it, facing the monastery in Hora.

In this one, you see Wally climbing up the ladder from the inner courtyard to  in Cookie’s house and onto the roof. The property with the windmill is right next door to Cookie’s.

Took this one at sunrise one morning. One of my favorite places to be was, in the words of the old James Taylor song, up on the roof.
